You can now send money to Myanmar in MMK. To do this, create a new recipient, select MMK as the currency, and add the branch name and address from a pre-defined drop-down list. You can then fund the transfer in USD or EUR, and a live competitive exchange rate will be applied for MMK.

When will the money arrive?

Transfers in MMK usually arrive within 2–3 working days, pending standard compliance and regulatory checks.

What are the benefits of sending MMK instead of USD or EUR?

  • Faster: Transfers in MMK typically settle within 3 working days (often sooner)

  • Save more: No intermediary bank charges when sending in MMK, saving you around USD 30 compared to USD transfers

  • Simpler: Money arrives directly in local currency, reducing hassle with conversions

Limits

There is a global minimum limit of 30,000 MMK (approximately 7 USD) applies to most banks in Myanmar. However, there are a few exceptions:

  • Kanbawza Bank (KBZ) allows transfers starting from 1,000 MMK, with a maximum limit of 21,000,000 MMK.

  • Co-Operative Bank Ltd does not enforce a minimum limit.

  • Other banks have not defined specific maximum limits.
